We know that mainstream pornography, based on straight male fantasies, is not an accurate representation of sex in real life. Girl-girl porn is not lesbian porn. Women experiencing pleasure without a penis involved intimidates men, and the actors themselves are usually straight. It is unfortunate that women are represented as delicate lotus flowers, requiring soft lighting and satin sheets and soothing flute music to undress with each other.

This creates a generally accepted, widely spread narrative that tells us what roles we are supposed to play; that people involved in sexual activity who are not vanilla, prescribe to one of the binary genders and heterosexual are deviants. In straight porn, priority is firmly placed on male sexual pleasure and male ejaculation as the end goal of sex. Male erotic satisfaction should not be the only goal.

Unfortunately, the sad state of sexual education is leading young people to search out another source for information — and it’s not their parents. Many LGBTQ+ children wonder if their desires are normal, and current pornography tells them that they are freaks that exist only to be fetishized. Showing that there are many ways that you can express yourself sexually, it is very important. Young people growing up with desires that are not shared by those around them, need to see that they are not alone, and their desires are not abnormal.
